Focus Centre Logo

The Focus Centre is a community hub in Swanage, bringing together a wide range of wellbeing, family, and support services under one roof. It’s a place for individuals and families, a place for everyone with the simple aim of making support easier to access locally and bringing people together.

The Focus Centre exists to bring services back into Swanage and the nearby villages — so people don’t always have to travel out of the area to get help, advice, or connection.

A Space for Everyone

The Focus Centre is for everyone, at different stages of life and for different reasons. The building hosts parent and toddler groups, wellbeing groups and professional support services. People are also welcome to simply drop in to find out what’s available.

Support and activities at the Focus Centre includes:

  • Family and toddler groups as part of the Dorset Family Hub Network
  • Mental health and emotional wellbeing support
  • Drug and alcohol support services and groups
  • Wellbeing courses, workshops, and group activities
  • Childminding and wraparound services
  • The Welcome Lounge — a relaxed space to drop in, and find support and information
  • Appointments with visiting professionals or local services such as Citizens Advice and Health Visitors

Supporting Families and Early Years

As part of the Dorset Family Hub Network, the Focus Centre plays an important role in supporting families with young children. Family and toddler groups offer a place to meet others, share experiences, and access advice and support in a relaxed setting.

These sessions help reduce isolation and give families a local place to connect, learn, and grow together.

There are groups for babies under one, Peer led infant feeding support, Health visitors offering professional support and advice to parents and Speech and language teams offer one to one support as well as group activities.

Future Plans

The Focus Centre is not a finished project — it’s an evolving community space, shaped by the people who use it.

Future plans include:

  • The opening of the new community cafe The Focus Cafe
  • Expanding the range of services and groups available locally
  • Creating more opportunities for connection, learning, and community involvement

A key development is the creation of The Focus Café, which will offer a welcoming, inclusive space where people can sit, talk, and feel part of something. The café will help tackle isolation, provide informal support, and contribute to the long‑term sustainability of the centre, as well as providing job opportunites and training for adults with learning difficulties.
(You can read more about this on the Donate page on the Wellbeing Swanage website.)

Hiring rooms and using the space

Rooms at the Focus Centre are available for hire by community groups, charities, professionals, and organisations whose work aligns with the centre’s values.

Hiring a room not only provides a local place to deliver services — it also helps support the running of the centre and the services it hosts.
